Transfer and Technology

Technology is becoming increasingly important in societies all over the globe. Along with the rise of technology came transfer of knowledge in countless new ways. Certainly, the most important development in this respect was the explosion of internet and web technology. The “World Wide Web” is nothing less than its name would suggest: an opportunity for people spread all over our planet to get in touch with each other, communicate and exchange thoughts and ideas.

The importance the internet has in the lives of most people in the first and second worlds is hard to overestimate. Nearly all aspects of life and culture are influenced by the web in one way or another nowadays. If someone would have considered opening a store of some kind 20 years ago, the first step would most likely have been to look for an appropriate location. Today location does not have to be a factor anymore at all. In fact, a lot of people would most definitely rather consider opening a web store than a “real” one to begin with. Consequently it is more likely that such a person would think about technology first, asking “what is the right onlineshop software for my purposes?”.

Safety is an aspect every store has to keep in mind. In the case of an “physical” store, a danger that one needs protection from, would be burglars for instance. The obvious thing to do: get an alarm system. Now in the case of a webstore the protection will consider hackers, who, for instance, might be interested in the data of yourcustomers. The shopsoftware itself needs to be safe. But much like in an old fashioned shop, alarm systems are required too. The counterpart to an alarm device used in a department store can for example be a firewall, keeping cyber-burglars out.
